Going to London and waking up in a bathroom stall in Paris?

My AVID teacher and I had this funny discussion about parties these days and how we're nearing our college years. Jokingly, he would tell us yeah you'll go party in San Diego/ Santa Barbara and end up in Mexico. Little did he know, some European person actually did something similar... Here's the story http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2509837/Teenager-went-drunken-night-Oldham-woke-PARIS.html

Allegory of the Cave Sonnet

What is thinking than a voice in our head?
Are those voices them or are they ours?
Knowledge is a form that is never dead,
And blossoms bright like dahlia flowers.

The false shadows that linger in the light,
Are only truths ready to be heard from.
But they will not go down without a fight,
And shall not leave the mind until it’s calm

 To fully understand circumstances,
One must jump blindly into the darkness.
Though one must be careful about choices,
Because those choices may lead to daftness

 This reality one must discover
Can be found by breaking the old thinker

BRAIN WITH [???] LEGS

I don't know how many people are exactly in my collaborative group but I know so far it is the people that in sit with in my fourth period English class. We are reading a Tale Of Two Cities. I also don't exactly know what we are doing but we are setting up a reading schedule that we have read a certain amount of pages (or chapters) each day/week and at the end of the week we will talk about the session in class and post to our blogs our thoughts on the section. That is all we've got so far!

ER MER GERD COLLEGE.

I don't really post much personal or daily thoughts but in the midst of getting things done and cleaned I noticed the massive amounts of college letters I've received in the past months. The pile has turned into a daunting task and I'VE YET TO FINISH MY BELOVED UC APPLICATION WHICH IS DUE IN TEN DAYS. If you didn't know, this is almost what ALL OUR HARD WORK OF HIGH SCHOOL AND SERVICE HAS LED UP TO, this stupid, long, application. Just let us kids into college, and let us learn and experience...

Melody monday #13

She's been on Melody monday a couple times already, and she will keep returning until she runs out of music! Your 13th melody for monday of this year is Ribs By Lorde! After this amazing and fun filled weekend, I came home and started listening to Lorde (my sister had just bought her whole album). I then stumbled across this song called Ribs.. and right then and there it hit home. It's been a long time since I've crossed a song that I've constantly hit repeat and made me reminisce about Australia, Africa, Freshman year, Sophomore Year, Junior year, and current events of my this year. And I never had felt so old in my life. Well enough about me, enjoy this tune (:

Plato's Allegory Of The Cave

1.) According to Socrates, what does the Allegory of the cave represent?
The allegory of the cave represents humans sticking to one way of thinking and not taking the initiative to go out and make their own path. The false reality of what is the "right way" isn't actually the right way, and that there is no "right way" to do something. The cave is what holds us back in our thinking and we have imperfect representations of life which lie on a plane that one can only venture out to know.

2.) What are the key elements in the imagery used in the allegory?
The key elements in the imagery are the shackles, sun, cave, voices, and shadows.

3.)What are some things the allegory suggests about the process of enlightenment or education?
The allegory suggests that the process of enlightenment/ education must be something obtained through personal ambition, motivation, and strife. In order to obtain an education, you must be self aware of what you are learning, how you are learning it, and what uses you will put to it.

4.)What do the imagery of "shackles" and the "cave" suggest about the perspective of cave dwellers or prisoners?
The perspective suggested is that they are held and restrained of what they want to believe. They don't have their one true experience to help them understand which makes them reformed to what type of bubble they live in. The mentality of pessimism and restriction from the outside world, holds you back from having an open mind. In other words... THE CAVE IS A PRISON!

5.)In society today or in your own life, what sorts of thing shackle the mind?
There are  myriad's of answers that can go along with this type of question such as money, friends, feelings, resources available, people, life... and so on. What shackles my mind is actually my own insecurity of being wrong or seen as being unintelligent. I can never find the right words or ways to express my thinking so I have trouble trying to put together my words and thoughts in a way where I don't sound crazy. But for society today, I feel that the school system and media has shackled the mind. We're taught almost ALL our lives that these grades we receive will help us get into college. Now that I'm at the point in my high school life where ALLLLLL this hard work adds up, I'm honestly a little bit disappointed. The grades that are shown on our report cards and transcript do not compute nor show the true capability and potential of the students on campus. Hopefully through trial and error, schools will realize this and find an innovative way to challenge kids to suit their own mindset of thinking and learning material.

6.)Compare the perspective of the freed prisoner with the cave prisoners.
Well obviously both prisoners have came from the same place, which gives the freed prisoner a perspective to compare things from. The major difference is that the freed prisoner has now EXPERIENCED this false reality and has their own experience to bring back. But the sad thing is that those cave prisoners will NEVER understand what the freed prisoner is talking about (which is why the freed prisoner became a shadow) because experiences are something that must be felt and lived not told and heard about.

7.)According to the allegory, lack of clarity or intellectual confusion can occur in two distinct ways or contexts. What are they?
The two ways are ignorance and and people who want to learn and go out and experience.

8.)According to the allegory, how do cave prisoners get free? What does this suggest about intellectual freedom?
The cave prisoners get free by breaking free from the shackles whenever they want because honestly it's just a choice. The only consequence is that they will hurt themselves in the process of experiencing. This suggests that intellectual freedom is A CHOICE!

9.) The allegory presupposes that there is a distinction between appearances and reality? Do you agree? Why or why not?
There is a HUGE difference between appearances and reality. With reality, things have almost a definite truth to what really is happening without falsely advertising anything. In comparison, appearances only show a false reality of what is really going on. Appearances are great at hiding things just like how girls like to "bottle up their emotions and act happy". No one will ever know the reality of something unless they ask and want to learn.

10.)If Socrates is incorrect in his assumption that there is a distinction between reality and appearances, what are the two alternative metaphysical assumptions?
All reality is predetermined in the same fate as we think it is.

WE HANG TOGETHER

-Similar to what you are learning in AP Econ about interdependence and why firms would do it.
-“Strategic Alliance” evolved through the diversity of the term. Used to be because of business, now its for creative purposes and opportunities.
- Interdependence can be confused with competition but it’s not.
-Failure is only an op
SURVIVAL OF THE INTERDEPENDENT
-Darwin basically said we need relationships and interdependencies to survive.
-TRUST AND COMMUNICATION (2 major factors of success of interdependency)

THE AMERICAN CULTURE AND THE FALLACY OF “GOING IT ALONE”
- The answer lies in ourselves.
- Young age is the key to socialization
- Working alone sacrifices the idea of community and teamwork
- Going alone means that you are only a filling a wish but not a problem in society
- Reality is not as realistic as it seems because companies advertise “going alone and doing your own thing when really you need people”
- For interdependence to work you must have the same ideas and values to succeed.
- Irony in companies not letting people be an individual when they spend millions trying to be.
opportunity.

HAMLET REMIXX *Update*

IT's COMING.... please excuse the delay. A series of unfortunate events occurred this weekend and I wasn't able to complete this piece of art I've been wanting to work on... In the meantime, enjoy a screen shot of the upcoming video...

AND HERE IT IS.... I will yet again edit and update it once I figure out WHY MY iMOVIE was not cooperating. So here is the prototype. Sorry for all the confusion in the video... I had a malfunction of program.

To be or not to be recital.

This is not my best work of art, and maybe sometime I will be able to reproduce this recital and salvage this one. But in the mean time, try not to cringe at my horrible acting... Dr. Preston I beg you not to present this in front of the class, there is a reason why I didn't want to recite this -__- .

Melody Monday #12

She's been on here once ladies and gentlemen, but she's such a dynamic artist I thought I'd put her on twice! Tonight's melody monday features the artist Lorde and her hit, 400 Lux. Enjoy it.

A Poetic Inquiry

With the recent occurrences of events in my life, I have not at all wanted to change my question. My question was does life happen whether by chance or by fate? Are our lives planned out by some destined fate? Or is it determined by the random events that occur in our lives? Was this meant to be or not to be?!?... Senior year has made me reconsider my options in college now and what I want to do for a living/career/ for the rest of my life. But the thing is, just what am I supposed to do and how do I know it's the right thing? It doesn't really help that I have only months before I make one of the biggest transitions in my life... What scares me the most is whose going to be there for me in the end. Time is fleeting, so are these lessons and problems thrown at me to teach me or was it just supposed to be this way? I know I've lived by "Things happen for a reason", but what is that reason?? Anyways here is my sonnet that I have found that I think, some what relates to my big question. It's about time.  Sonnet 60
